Connecting to a Minecraft Server on your Gaming Console

Connecting with a Switch, PS4/PS5 or Xbox to a Minecraft Server

Have you struggled with connecting to a multiplayer Minecraft server on your Nintendo Switch, PlayStation or Xbox? By default, these consoles do not display a way to add a server outside the Featured Server selection list making it difficult to connect to a server. 

However, with just a few adjustments in your system’s settings, you can to a Minecraft server with a console. Each console is different so click on the one that you have below for detailed instructions.

Step 1: Changing Console Settings

(Select your Console from the drop down menu below for instructions)

  1. Open the System Settings menu in your Nintendo Switch menu (NOT in Minecraft).
  2. Scroll down to Internet and select Internet Settings.
  3. Select the wifi network that the device is connected to (most likely your home wifi network).
  4. Select Change Settings.
  5. Scroll down to DNS Settings and switch it to Manual.
    1. Set the Primary DNS to this code: 104.238.130.180
    2. Set the Secondary DNS to this code: 1.1.1.1
  6. Save settings & you should now be able to connect to our servers.
  1. From the Playstation main menu, hit the Settings icon to open settings (NOT in Minecraft).
  2. Scroll down to the Network tab and select the Settings option.
  3. Select the Set Up Internet Connection option.
  4. Press the Options button on the PlayStation controller on the wifi network that the device is connected to (most likely your home wifi network) and choose Advanced Settings.
  5. Scroll down to DNS Settings and switch it to Manual.
    1. Set the Primary DNS to this code: 104.238.130.180
    2. Set the Secondary DNS to this code: 1.1.1.1 
  6. Select OK to save the settings & you should now be able to connect to our servers.
  1. From the Xbox main menu, press the Xbox Button on the controller.
  2. Use the RB and LB buttons to scroll over to the Profile tab.
  3. Scroll down and select the Settings option.
  4. From the General tab, choose Network Settings and in the bottom right, select Advanced Settings.
  5. Scroll down to DNS Settings and switch it to Manual.
    1. Set the Primary DNS to this code: 104.238.130.180
    2. Set the Secondary DNS to this code: 1.1.1.1 
  6. Hit the Menu (or start) buttons to save the settings, then restart the Xbox console you should now be able to connect to our servers.

Step 2: Connecting to a Minecraft Server

(Same Instructions for Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox)

  1. Open Minecraft Bedrock Edition & hit Play.
  2. Scroll over to the Servers tab in the top menu.
  3. Scroll down past the featured servers and hit Add Server.
    1. If there is no Add Server button at the bottom, select a server and hit the Join Server button.
    2. Once connected, choose the Connect to a Server option. 
  4. Fill in the fields
    1. Server Address: a counselor will give you this in our programs
    2. Server Port: 19132
    3. Server Name/Display Name: Optional, but will be what the server is saved as in the list to make it easier to find.
    4. Add to server list: not always an option, but if it is, tick to have the server show up on the server list.
  5. Hit the Save button to save the server.

Select the newly saved server and hit Join Server.

Now that you have your console setup you are ready to join any Bedrock compatible Minecraft server even if it’s not on the featured list.

Builder’s Club is a community for Minecraft enthusiasts to collaborate in projects and build structures together. It takes the magic of Creative Mode a bit further by making it an enriching experience where kids can brainstorm, make decisions, and accomplish team goals. This is a collaborative club where kids can participate to test and design epic structures.

Our clubs also include two girls’ programs which are inclusive learning communities where we welcome any child who identifies as female. Our friendly atmosphere is the perfect antidote to the sometimes over-competitive and intimidating online social world. We have a Girls’ Builder’s Club and a Girls’ Survival Club.
